Pepper Kulambu (Pepper Curry)

Ingredients:
Peeled finely sliced small onions – ½ cup
Tamarind pulp – 3 tsp
Oil for frying

For seasoning:
Oil – 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
Asafoetida – ¼ tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Grind together:
Black pepper – 1 tsp
Dry red chillies – 4
Thur dhal – 1 tsp
Urad dhal – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Roast the above items (except the curry leaves) in a little oil till golden brown and grind with curry leaves to a coarse paste with a little water.

Method of Preparation:
• Heat oil in a pan and add the seasonings.
• Once they splutter add the onion and fry till golden brown.
• Add the ground paste and fry for a few minutes.
• Add the tamarind pulp, salt to taste and cook covered with some water.
• Boil till the curry thicken and oil floats on top.
• Serve with idli, dosa or rice.
